Meet Jennifer

As a special education teacher, I thought I knew how to teach reading. That changed when my second child struggled to read. I pored over textbooks and talked with other teachers about how to help him. At one point I was so desperate that I promised him a Robby the Robot toy if he would read 100 books. My son, like a lot of your kids, managed to memorize the books word-for-word as we read them, winning the toy but not actually learning to read. It wasn't until I handed him a new book and he couldn't read it to me that I realized what had happened. Not knowing what to do next, I reached out to the school psychologist who put me in touch with the reading lab at our local university. After an evaluation for Dyslexia, they recommended the Wilson Reading System. The tutoring my son received, along with the right accommodations gave him the tools he needed to succeed in the classroom. Now he's about to graduate this spring with an undergraduate degree in engineering!

In 2015, my family moved from Utah to California. I looked into returning to the classroom, but decided I'd rather work with students like my son one on one. I knew that my experience with fighting for the right accommodations, finding the right tutors, and teaching my son how to advocate for himself gave me the personal background to really make a difference for other people whose kids are struggling.

In 2020 I officially created JPN Tutoring as an LLC, that along with my Wilson Practitioner Certification has allowed me to help over 20 families and work with 4 local school districts to provide essential services both online and in person!
